How the visualizer works
When you tap Start, your browser downloads a compact image-segmentation model (SegFormer-B0, trained on the ADE20K scene dataset, which includes “wall”, “floor” and “ceiling” classes) and runs it on your device using WebGPU when available, or WebAssembly otherwise. It looks at a small copy of each camera frame, estimates which pixels are wall, floor or ceiling, and snaps those masks to the edges in your picture.
New paint keeps the brightness and shadows of your original wall and swaps only its color, so corners, lamp light and shadows stay believable. New floors are drawn in perspective and then shaded with the light and shadows from your photo. Rugs are left alone where the AI recognizes them.
What to expect
- Speed: the video stays smooth while the AI refreshes its masks a few times per second on recent phones with WebGPU, or about once or twice per second with WebAssembly. Older phones are slower; freezing the frame or using a photo gives the cleanest result.
- Accuracy: good on plain walls and open floors; weaker on glossy cabinets, mirrors, busy wallpaper, very dark rooms, and where furniture covers most of the floor. Use “Tap to refine” to fix misses.
- Color: phone screens and cameras shift color. Treat on-screen colors as a starting point and confirm with physical samples.
- Privacy: the camera feed and your photos never leave your device. Only the AI model files are downloaded.
