Questions about carpet removal
Is there hardwood under my carpet?
Sometimes, especially in older homes. If there is, it may be refinishable; see our hardwood refinishing basics guide.
What about old carpet glue or old tile under the carpet?
Old flooring and adhesives in older homes can contain asbestos. If we find old vinyl, mastic or other suspect materials, they should be tested before they're disturbed.
Can you install new flooring right after?
Yes. Carpet removal is often the first step of an LVP flooring project.
