Questions about the table
What is the “published cost-guide average”?
It's the midpoint of a price range published by a national cost guide such as HomeGuide or Angi, for the same kind of job. We show the full range and link the source and the date we looked it up. These are national figures, not quotes from local contractors, so treat them as a reference point.
How is “Our typical price” calculated?
Every time we give a quote, won or lost, we log the category, the size (rooms, square feet or linear feet) and the price, with no customer details. The site divides each quote by its size and takes a recency-weighted median, so recent quotes count more and one unusual job can't skew it. Until we've logged 3 quotes in a category, we show the published average as a starting estimate instead.
Why would your price ever be higher than average?
Sometimes it is, and we'll say so. Prep (patching, priming, lead-safe practices on older homes), premium paint lines, extra coats and moving furniture all add cost. Your written estimate spells out exactly what's included so you can compare scope for scope.
How does this back the Best Price Guarantee?
The table shows where our prices typically land, and the Open Bid Board lets other contractors bid on the same scope. If you get a lower written quote for the same scope, our Best Price Guarantee applies. See the guarantee page for the conditions.
What is the “community average”?
It's the median of competing bids submitted on our Open Bid Board for that category, per unit, with the number of bids shown. It only appears once real bids come in.
Is my final price the same as the table?
No. The table shows typical prices per unit. Your free written estimate is based on your actual rooms, surfaces, condition and materials.
